Sunshine
The women's ministry provides services to the shut-ins of First English Lutheran Church through the Sunshine Program. Cards are sent and flowers and other gifts are delivered throughout the year. To volunteer, please call Marilee Tilly at 309-682-6093.
Quilt-Makers
Many of the women at First English Lutheran Church sew quilts for Lutheran World Relief. If you are interested in sewing or cutting fabric, please contact Patti Stimeling at 309-685-3557 or Char Davis at 309-637-7253. You may join the group of women who meet on the second and fourth Tuesday morning at First English or you may sew or cut at home. In addition, fabric donations are needed. (Donations could include items such as curtains or sheets in addition to new fabric.)
Wedding Receptions and Anniversary Celebrations
Wedding receptions or anniversary celebrations to be held at First English may be arranged by contacting the church office. The women's ministry committee provides the framework through which these events are planned and served. The contact person is Carole Reber at 309-383-2368.
Bereavement Dinners
Families who wish to call upon the services of the women's ministry to serve a lunch after a funeral service should notify Pastor Lillie via the church office. Anyone interested in volunteering their time to help in the kitchen, serve dinner, or donate food may call Carolyn Hesselberth at 309-692-0675.
LSSI Tutoring program at First English
The tutoring program serves Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) children in grades K-4 who come to the church on Thursday afternoons for one-on-one tutoring. The main emphasis is reading and math. Tutors, clerical help, and hostesses are needed. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Mary Niemi at 309-383-2292.
Church Women United
Church Women United is a national ecumenical movement that brings all women of differing faith expressions together for a community of prayer, advocacy, and service. First English is represented by Maxine McIntyre. Call her at 309-685-2245 for information on meeting times in Peoria.
Lutheran Women of Greater Peoria
Lutheran Women of Greater Peoria is organized to promote inter-Lutheran fellowship, ecumenical understanding, and to give an opportunity to witness our Christian love and concern through volunteer service to others. This organization helps to support LSSI, Lutheran Hillside Village, and the Church Mouse.
